Capabilities

Bayards is one of the few companies in the world with its machinery entirely dedicated to the material aluminium. Our modern machine park contains one of the largest friction stir welding machines in Europe, various CNC machines, bending machines and welding robots. In addition, we have in-house blasting and painting facilities for multiple types of surface treatments.

OUR PEOPLE

Apart from aluminium, engineering forms the core of our company. That is what distinguishes us from other aluminium construction companies. Every project that we take on must be a technical challenge for our Engineering department.

We work with a large, dedicated group of highly skilled engineers from around the world who specialize in aluminium. As the market leader, Bayards continuously invests in both our team and technical software like Tekla, STAAD, and Siemens NX to further sharpen our competitive edge. Leveraging their aluminium expertise, our engineering department utilizes this software to craft ideal solutions for our clients, with a keen focus on strength, durability, ease of installation, safety, and environmental considerations to achieve optimal engineered solutions

OUR FACILITIES

Our story began in Nieuw-Lekkerland in 1963. What started as a small workshop grew extensively to the headquarters and production facilities we know today. With a production facility comprising five halls, this is the epicenter of our organization.

Through the years, Bayards has expanded. We currently have over ten offices worldwide and three production facilities totaling 12500 square meters in the Netherlands, including our headquarters in Nieuw-Lekkerland.

In addition to our offices in Nieuw-Lekkerland, we boast locations in Dintelmond, Rotterdam, and IJsselmonde. Each of our production facilities has its own focus on products, techniques, and related expertise.

MILLING

A large part of our work is machining our own extruded profiles. In doing so, our team of experienced Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machinists uses the high-speed, high-precision milling machines in our privately owned machine park.

Each machine is used for a specific application, but the common denominator is that they are all used to accomplish the ultimate finished solution in aluminium.

WELDING

Bayards is renowned for its complex aluminium structures. To create these solutions in aluminium, we use multiple welding techniques and machines, such as MIG welding, TIG welding, Friction Stir Welding, and robot welding.

Each welding technique is used for a specific application, but they all have in common that they are used to accomplish the ultimate weld that meets the client’s expectation in both strength and aesthetics.

Friction Stir Welding

The most notable acquisition of our machine park has to be our friction stir welding machine. This machine mechanically intermixes two pieces of aluminium at the join, softening the material so the metal can be fused using mechanical pressure.

The main benefits of friction stir welding are minimal material distortion and high-strength welds without inclusions or impurities. This makes the welding technique extremely suitable for products with an important aesthetic aspect.

High-speed milling

In addition to high-speed profile milling machines, we also have a Portatec BZ 150-30 DP machine.

Its state-of-the-art features ensure that the required size and quality of the machining surface are met. Thanks to the special mounting technique of this machine – it uses a large vacuum table to secure the material – we can efficiently mill large working lengths of machining surface, up to 15050 x 3050 x 200 mm.

The major advantage of milling versus conventional cutting is that the edges of the plates do not need any additional finishing. This in turn leads to a higher dimensional accuracy.

High-speed and high-precision gantry milling

For machining larger structures such as the reconnaissance vehicles that we produced for defence and our solutions for the semiconductor industry, we use our Handtmann UBZ NT_G 1400\300 T-2 machine.

This high-precision 5-axis gantry milling machine is one of Europe’s largest. It has a working range of 15000 x 3450 x 1500 mm which can be divided into two separate areas. Each area can accommodate product lengths up to 6000 mm.

Surface treatment

In addition to the welding manual, MIG, TIG, and milling, Bayards’ production facilities also include a fully equipped state-of-the-art paint shop and shot blasting facility (both 14000 x 8000 x 5000 mm). At our facilities in Nieuw-Lekkerland, we blast, prime, and paint our solutions in aluminium, such as our helideck planking and the bridges and reconnaissance vehicles for defence.

We have developed our painting procedure to guarantee our high-quality standards effortlessly. All surface treatments, therefore, take place under the watchful eye of our in-house painting specialists.
